Noble Manhattan recently ran their very first coaching event in the beautiful city of Budapest in Hungary. The city is the capital and the center of all financial, political, cultural, and commercial dealings which means there are a lot of professionals who can benefit from the coaching programs of Noble Manhattan.

The event was the special ‘Introduction to Coaching’ seminar aimed at professional coaches and local business people. It was aimed at giving them a clear vision and understanding of the power of coaching and how it can be of incredible use to managers in the workplace. With the city being the center of finance and commerce, managers will definitely benefit from the executive coaching program of Noble Manhattan.

The CEO and founder of Noble Manhattan, Gerard O’Donovan, flew in to Budapest to run the event himself and it was an incredible success. He was accompanied by his international development manager Vali Cojucaru who runs the company’s worldwide development from her central European base in Bucharest.

The event generated a lot of interest in the advantages of coaching and how it can further enhance the abilities of managers in the workplace. Because of the positive response of the audience, there’s now a need to have a professional coach who can be the leader for coaching in the area.

And due to the overwhelming response that came from the seminar, Noble Manhattan is now considering the launch of their full range of programs in Hungary. In line with this, they’re searching for Strategic Partners to who can head the coaching programs in the region.

A client has approached you with the following question: how can I make a living doing what I like? Terry Neal, LCI’s Master Coach, answers…

I believe that this question will be asked of you by clients more and more over the coming years. Many people are realising and acknowledging to themselves and others that the work they do each day is not what they would choose to do.

There has been much attention lately also of an activity called ‘downshifting’, where people exchange the ‘rat race’ and doing a job that either they don’t like doing any more or which they never wanted to do in the first place for a simpler and happier life.

Whether your client has just started working within a job or career or they’ve been involved in a particular role for years, being able to do what they’d like to do and make a living from it probably seems (to them) highly unlikely at this point. As their coach I suggest that you first determine if your client is aware of two aspects about themselves, what their personal values are and if they know for sure what they’d like to do.

If values are something that they have never determined for themselves then I would begin by asking them to determine these personal values. To do this you could give them a checklist of personal values in a worksheet that they could look through and decide upon in the session, or they could take it home and work on it for next time with you.

The other aspect that they need to determine is what “they’d really like to do” looks like in reality. There are a number of possible approaches to do this if they’re unsure or say that they’ve never really thought about it or just have no idea. You could complete the “What’s My Life’s Purpose” exercise with them to draw up a life purpose statement:

Exercise – What’s My Life’s Purpose

To begin, provide your client with 6 pieces of plain paper and a few pens and then ask them to do the following: “On the first piece of paper, list as many of your positive attributes as you can. This includes abilities, skills and traits that you know to be true about you and also those which a partner, family and/or friends have said to you as well”.

Encourage your client to not limit what they put on the list; encourage them to put down as many as they can think of; encourage them to be truthful and honest about themselves.

On the second piece of paper, ask your client to write down all the ways that they express themselves in the world; all the activities that they do like painting, gardening, reading, whatever they do on a day to day basis, that’s what they write down.

On the third piece of paper ask your client to list all the ways they would like to see the world, the qualities that they would like to see the entire world express as commonly held values. Once again remind them to write down as many as they can think of, to not limit the qualities that they’d like to see in the world.

Now ask your client to look at each of the lists on each of the pieces of paper and circle the three personal qualities, expressions and world qualities that “speak” to them the strongest and deepest. This will mean that your client has 3 items indicated on each page. Remember to remind them that this is the start and that the lists can be amended at any time to reflect a more accurate sense of what’s important in their life right now.

On a sheet that you have prepared with the following words, ask your client to complete using their lists of words.

The first sentence starts with: My life’s purpose is to express and apply my… Ask your client to write in their three most important positive abilities, traits and skills.

It continues with: through… Ask your client here to write in the three best ways that you express yourself in the world.

It ends with: to bring forth in the world… Ask your client to list here those three qualities that you’d like to see expressed throughout the entire world.

The final step is to ask your client to read out their life purpose statement to hear how it sounds to them. You could then ask your client how it feels to them and if they want to make any amendments to it.

This will give them a strong indication of possible areas of involvement that’s closest to their personal values and beliefs. You could ask them to imagine or to visualise what their perfect working and earning money situation would look like. You could do this by using a miracle question. Ask them to sit comfortably and to close their eyes if they’re ok doing so. Let them know that you’re going to write down whatever they say so they won’t have to remember it all.

Once they’re comfortable and as free of distractions as they can be you could then ask your question: “Let yourself imagine that you wake up tomorrow morning and you are in the work situation that you’ve always wanted to be in. What does it look like? Where are you? Who’s around you?” Ask them to provide as much detail as possible. Keep on asking them for any more details until they stop and say that they’ve finished.

Ask them to open their eyes and to listen as you read out what you’ve written down about what they’ve said. Ask them if there’s anything that they’d like to add or change about what they’ve said and you’ve written. Remind them that this is the first draft only of their future working plan. It isn’t ‘carved in stone’.

If your client isn’t comfortable with visualisation you could suggest that they create a collage or picture of what this plan of ‘making a living doing what they ‘like’ would look like – or they could write a letter from the future to define what this idea would look like.

Now if your client knows what they’d like to do already to earn money, ask them to state it and to write it down or use whatever means your client would prefer to create a visual image of how it would look.

As a follow on from this you could ask if they are already doing this activity or some part of this activity on a regular basis e.g. if they wanted to produce art to earn money, are they painting on a regular basis now?; if they are ask them if they’re prepared to commit time to continue to do this activity on a regular basis. If they haven’t done any of this activity at all before, check that this is what they would like to do to make a living and not what they think that they should do.

Essentially there are three stages that your client needs to be ready to do for themselves to start making their vision or plan an actual reality: (1) recognition and acknowledgement of what they’d really like to do; (2) clear statements or pictures or whatever medium they choose of the activity in its fullest possible terms and finally (3) a commitment to allocating time to be involved in this activity from this point forward on a regular basis.

This will assist your client to either begin or to continue to do the activity that they would most like to do. Making a living through their preferred activity can be addressed in another session and it’s been my experience that opportunities to do this arise more easily and naturally when a person is connected to their true passion in life.

Here, in this short article I am laying out just a few of the simple and straightforward steps that all coaches and student coaches need to engage in if they want to start building a coaching practice that will attract the right type of clients for them.

The way to attract great life coaching clients is the same as used to attract clients in any other similar service industry, whether it be Reiki, NLP, Hypnotherapy, or Emotional Freedom Technique. By using local marketing techniques, creating a website, offering free public lectures, writing articles, and setting up radio interviews and teleseminars you will quickly be able to start earning a good and increasing income from your life coaching business.

Use Local Marketing Techniques

Although many coaches would like to build a national and of course an international client base we often make the mistake of forgetting to market on our own doorstep.

It is possible to do a large amount of local marketing by going to networking events, handing out business cards, using posters in public places, putting up notices in local libraries, shops, cafes etc and making cold calls. In fact most of these activities are completely free and start to get you very well know in your local area rather quickly .

Actually, it’s silly not to engage in all of these .

Create A Website

One of the better ways of stimulating a practice is to take full advantage of the Internet. Getting clients can be fun and profitable online. What’s more, you can easily start earning a great income from online clients because you can offer digital products as part of backend sales, as well of generating affiliate commissions from products you recommend.

However rather than a typical or traditional website I would recommend a blog site using WordPress. In my humble experience it is more effective, usable, search engine friendly and overall easier to change. You don’t need any IT experts to help you .

Offer Free Public Lectures

Public speaking may be one of the fastest ways of getting people to know, like, and trust you. By offering your local community, institutions, and organizations free speaking services, you will be able to quickly launch a successful coaching business. Churches, for example, would welcome someone who is going to give an interesting talk about self-improvement. Once people attend your events, give them your website address, so that they can continue to interact with you. Make sure that you offer even more free stuff on your website so that they feel motivated to go home and download your free digital offers.
Marketing can be as simple as going around to various groups and asking them if they would like to have some free lectures on a self-improvement topic. You can select from a huge variety of topics that people find fascinating: how to set goals, how to quit procrastinating, how to have great relationships, how to earn more money, or how to be highly motivated and successful in following your passions.

There are numerous ways to find these groups, ranging from visiting churches and community centres to using newspapers, magazines, and directories to locate them.

Since you are offering your services free, it will not be difficult to get a number of speaking engagements. If you are unsure about your speaking skills, then begin by taking a class on public speaking or joining a public speaking club. Toastmasters for example is highly thought of.

Write Articles

One of the next best way of getting clients is to write articles. You should write articles for local magazines and newspapers as well as articles for article directories on the Internet. By writing articles for local sources, people who seldom use the Internet will get to know about your life coaching practice. By writing articles for the Internet, and registering on some of the many FREE article marketing sites you will drive a stream of targeted traffic to your website (blog site). In addition, the search engines will rank you higher in their index pages because you will have more backlinks pointing to your website.
Again, offer to do this for free. At the bottom of your article, you will get a small author’s resource box. This is where you can mention your contact information and how you are able to assist people to achieve a higher quality of life.

Radio Shows and Teleseminar

You can get a radio engagement by calling around local radio stations and finding out if they are willing to do an interview with you about how people can improve their lives. Again, you should not directly pitch your coaching services, but instead try to educate people about some aspect of self-improvement. For instance, you can tell the radio host that you want to talk about how people can set impossible goals and hit them every time. Mention how you have a series of strategies to make people goal achieving wizards and you want to share it with the world.

Teleseminars or Webinars are even easier to set up. Decide on your topic and arrange the time with a conference calling service. If you have less than 99 callers, you may even be able to get the service free. Use your website ( blogsite) to advertise the teleseminar. If you have a list of subscribers, then email them the date and time.

I hope this has been useful as a simple overview of very cost effective and easy to implement strategies.

Warmest,

Gerard

Update from Gerard : A Month Of Firsts

I am writing this from my hotel room in Bucharest in Romania. The weather here is absolutely beautiful. I flew in from Warsaw a couple of days ago because I was there to do two important jobs

One was to deliver a keynote speech for the world HR Congress, which I do believe went down very well, based on the fantastic feedback. This was the second time I’ve delivered a speech at this wonderful international gathering. Such an efficient and well-run organisation, very impressive indeed.

The other main job in Warsaw was to oversee the first ever Noble Manhattan residential coach program that we have run in Poland and not only that but it was also run in Polish two firsts !!

I am here in Bucharest with my great lifelong friend Scott Milway to deliver our first-ever “Quantum Goal Achievement Course” in Romania.

We have deliberately kept this first cause very small and exclusive with only 13 people. (http://www.achievemygoals.net) it seems to be going down incredibly well, already we are seeing that it is changing people’s lives.

In the middle of next week I then travel with Vali, our European development manager to Sofia in Bulgaria where we run our very first ever

“ Introduction to Coaching” event in that country. That is going to be our official launch meeting into Bulgaria.

And, I have to say a huge thank you to our strategic partner team of Katrin,Lavinia and Brian who have been working so hard over the last four months to make this a reality. All of their hard work will come to fruition within the week. J

I guess it’s only to be expected, May, a month of joy and well-being, a month of new life and growth not only in nature but it would seem also in business.

I shall be at the mind body spirit festival at the end of this month for a couple of days as our company have our usual annual exhibition stand there.

So if any of you are in the area it would be lovely to touch base.

Then it’s back to Poland for two days followed by a week in France. The French bit isn’t work. I’m taking a break with my wife, actually that is another first. Because for the first time ever we are both going away together on my motorbike !!!!!!!!!! she has never agreed to do that in the 10 years that I have owned a bike !

Got to go now, and prepare for day 2 of the goal achievement course.

OH, I almost forgot - my latest book was also published this month. “A Coach’s Story” is quite unique in that it tells the story of 20 different and diverse coaches.

Purchase This Book

We have created a simple website at http://www.a-coaches-story.com/ which explains more about the book. Although it is not yet possible to purchase the book directly from this site. (That will happen within a few days). If you would in the meantime like to purchase the book simply send an e-mail to info@noble-manhattan.com and the office will post one to you immediately, price £15

All my love,

Gerard

Recommendation for an Extraordinary Book

I’m going to take the rather unusual step of very deliberately recommending a product. A book in fact.

A colleague and friend of mine called Andy Shaw who has made millions over the years in building and growing businesses has written a most wonderful book called “ A Bug Free Mind” he was kind enough to send me a complimentary copy which I have taken with me on my travels around Europe. I have not been able to put it down.

You know I have been heavily involved in the personal development industry for well over 20 years, I have read so many books and listened to so many audio programs I really have lost track.

This wonderful book that Andy has produced (actually it’s two books, the main book and a user’s guide) encapsulates all of the teachings of the Masters, and he explains it in such an easy to read and down to earth style that it becomes simple to understand and apply.

Because he has such a strong desire to get this message out to the world he has set up a system of affiliates, and I have been very happy to become one.

To get full information about this special book, just go here http://www.abugfreemind.com/cmd.php?af=1347609

I would be really interested in receiving feedback once you have had a chance to review this book.

Warmest,

Gerard
